AVIN AHMADI

ud & vocals (IRAN)

Avin Ahmadi is a young Iranian oud player, vocalist and composer whose work moves fluidly between Persian musical traditions and contemporary jazz. Born into an artistic family in Tehran, she began her musical journey at an early age and discovered the oud at the age of nine, an instrument that quickly became central to her artistic identity. She studied at the Tehran Music Conservatory, where she developed a strong foundation under the guidance of masters such as Negar Bouban, Hojat Farajian and Yasamin Shahhosseini. During this period, she performed at major venues including Vahdat Hall and Roudaki Hall in Tehran, both as a soloist and within ensembles.

After graduating, Ahmadi moved to Austria to further expand her musical language. She is currently studying jazz improvisation at the Anton Bruckner University in Linz and is actively involved in the Viennese and European music scene. Her work reflects a wide spectrum of influences, shaped through collaborations with musicians from Brazil, West Africa and the Middle East, resulting in a highly personal sound where improvisation, tradition and contemporary expression meet.

In recent years, Ahmadi has built a strong international profile through performances, tours and collaborations across Europe and beyond. She has appeared at leading venues such as Porgy and Bess (Vienna), MuTh – Musiktheater im Augarten (Vienna), Stiftung Mozarteum (Salzburg), and Kultursommer Wien, as well as international stages in Sweden, Spain, Slovakia, Lithuania, Romania and Switzerland. Highlights include showcases at JAZZ I AM in Barcelona, I AM ABROAD in Vienna and Gothenburg, and performances at festivals such as the Dresden Guitar Festival, NAWA Festival, and the Silkroad Global Musician Workshop in Boston.

Her touring activity includes the MusiSHEans Guitar Tour 2024, with concerts in twelve cities across Germany and Italy, as well as appearances in Eastern Europe and the Baltic region. She has collaborated with a wide range of artists including Victoria Kirilova, Lorenz Widauer, Mahan Mirarab, Golnar Shahyar, Rez Abbasi, Mona Matbou Riahi, Simin Tander and Elaha Soroor, reflecting her strong presence within an international network of forward thinking musicians.

Alongside her work as a performer, Ahmadi has developed several projects that highlight her artistic versatility. Her solo oud and vocal project, launched in 2023 with a debut concert at Porgy and Bess, has since toured various European stages. She is also active in duo and ensemble formats, including collaborations with Lorenz Widauer (trumpet) and Victoria Kirilova (double bass), exploring intersections of jazz, chamber music and Persian influences. In 2025 she released her debut EP Liminal, featuring original compositions for oud and voice, developed together with musicians such as Reza Tavakoli, András Dés, Kristian Lind and Haider Khan.

Ahmadi’s work has been recognized internationally. She was selected for NASOM – The New Austrian Sound of Music 2025–2026, a prestigious program of the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs, supporting outstanding emerging artists and enabling her to present her work on international stages.

With a rapidly growing international presence, Avin Ahmadi represents a new generation of musicians who bridge cultures through a deeply personal and exploratory approach to sound, connecting the musical heritage of the Middle East with contemporary global jazz and improvisation.
